The prairie garden at CTL is a sea of yellow daisies consisting of Black-eyed Susan, Tall Coreopsis, Rosin Weed, and Compass Plant (Compass Plant so-named because the edges of the huge, rough, deeply incised basal leaves always point in a north-south direction, an accurate compass for American Indians and early pioneers) . All the yellow is punctuated with spikes of rosy-purple Rough Blazing Star. Lavender-blue Smooth Blue Aster and white Heath Aster are beginning to open, as well, to be joined soon by the purple New England Aster. Little Bluestem and the fragrant Prairie Drop Seed, midsize prairie grasses, are also in bloom. Black-eyed Susan and Evening Primrose are blooming in the newly seeded prairie.
