What is Small Group Ministry? It's a dynamic way of linking people to people, providing them with a safe place for living Life more fully. Groups include up to a dozen members and cover a broad range of interests and needs. Larger groups often form more than one cluster and share resources. See below for a list of currently active groups.
Who can be involved? Anyone. Everyone. No membership required. All that's needed is a desire to enjoy, explore, or examine Life in greater detail. Let anyone and everyone know about these. It's one of those things we do out of Christian Love, Compassion, and Friendship.
Why should I care about this Ministry? This is a vital ministry for this congregation and out entire community. There is a Small Group here that touches on virtually every facet of life for you or those you care about. Small Groups truly demonstrate the love of Christ for all.
How do I start? It's simple. Just call the church office at 847-741-8141 and ask to find out more. They will provide you with a list of Small Groups and who will contact you with the details. Make that choice today!

- "The Sandwich Generation: Caring for Aging Parents." Visions for this include guest speakers providing tips, strategies, and techniques for balancing spouses, children, occupation, home, and parents, and it will touch on the practical and the spiritual (of course, it goes without saying that the spiritual is also extremely practical). That's one time a month, and another time could be included for support time, when the group comes together for reflection, sharing, and prayer. Interested? Contact the church office.
- Wholeness This group will be discussing Wholeness -- how do we maintain balance in our lives spiritually, physically, vocationally, emotionally, relationally and volitionally. Scripture, sharing of experiences and prayer are major components of this small group experience. If your life is perfectly balanced perhaps you know someone else that might benefit from this small group.
- Bound & Un-Gagged This group will provide venue for reviewing the latest good reads, discussion on literary topics, fellowship, and of course, breakfast at International House of Pancakes (IHOP). Meeting times are usually the first Saturday morning of each month. The day of the week or time may change for special purposes from time to time. Invite your friends, neighbors, people with whom you share library fines. A great way to close out a hectic week! Contact the church office for details.
Book Club Readings
- Crafter's Small Group Crafters was born from an aspiration to plan and hold an annual Craft Show to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The group was organized to provide opportunity for individuals to meet regularly throughout the year for fellowship and to make handcrafted items for sale at the Craft Show which is held the 1st Saturday in November at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church.
We usually meet at the church on the third Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. Each meeting begins with a devotional time, followed by a potluck luncheon, fellowship, and finally the craft of the month. Sometimes it’s difficult to decide which part we like best. The group is made up of both men and women who basically enjoy crafts. Each session is a different craft and many times we are learning a new technique. A variety of skill levels are needed and the array of talent includes people who cut, glue, draw or fold materials to those who design and coach the projects. Please join us at our next meeting. All activities are open to members and non-members alike. We encourage bringing friends and new members are always welcome.
- Men's Breakfast Men of all ages are welcome to join this group for fun, food, and great conversation. This group meets the last Saturday of every month at 9:00 a.m. at the Colonial Restaurant in Elgin. Friends are always welcome.
- The Bridge Club The Bridge Club welcomes anyone who has recently become "suddenly single". It is a group of people who are adjusting from one stage of life to another, learning to live alone. We gather on the first and third Sunday of each month at 4:00PM at different local restaurants for fun, laughter, and friendship. No reservations are needed. We come when we can and friends are always welcome. For more information and a recent schedule, contact the church office.
